Room Data Sheets SmartTool

Room data sheets (or RDS) are used to record the details and requirements for each room on the project. These are usually prepared by the client during the time of briefing (also known as architectural programing in the US) of the design process. They could be revised throughout the design process to reflect changes or to provide a clearer picture of the people responsible for delivering a project.

The Room Data Sheets SmartTool is an efficient and accurate sheet view and scheduling tool that allows you to create rooms (or space) data sheets within a Revit project. The tool can generate 3D plans, 3D elevations and view schedules for spaces or rooms that are named parametrically and numbered on new sheets.

By default the tool will utilize the Room Numbering template and the Sheet Format that are set by the Revit project however, a new sheet name and style can be picked from the Tool Options tab. Click “Load Configuration …” on the toolbar to replace current settings with previously saved configurations. This reduces the amount of manual re-work required for each different room or space size and type.

In the ‘Naming tab, the user can choose whether to include the selected room/space name in the sheet’s ‘Sheet Name’ text find more box which is displayed to the left of the screen. “View Name” is the text that appears in the title bar of every view, and ‘View Increment:’ specifies the increment between each view when it is placed on the sheet. The option ‘Spacing’ can be enabled to control the space between each view on the sheet and the ‘Exclude View Titles in Estimating View Sizes on Sheets’ option will stop titles from being included when determining the number of views that could fit on a sheet.
